Looking at US growth outperformance, one of the most likely risks for 2010, while it might seem that downside risks would dominate, this is not always the case. In the US there are a number of upside risks to growth forecasts. An improving labour market, a bounce back in consumer confidence and stimulatory policy settings could gain additional traction in 2010, and given the usual lag in policy tightening this would not have a negative impact until 2011. An increase in housing construction (even to past recession lows) and a surge in productivity – suggesting that a recovery in activity is underway will see significant profit growth. It is also observed that there is a long standing tendency for an under-estimation of growth coming out of a recession.

Market mania is the proper way to describe the everyday nature of a market that is ruled by a basic denominator called the foreign currency exchange rate. Called the paper trade or the Forex market, it is also a market that has been gaining a tremendous amount of popularity thus far and we can thank the dipping economy because of this.
As more and more investors lose confidence over the traditional stocks and more and more people are looking for secondary revenues to pad up their uncertain jobs, the Forex market has seen membership come at it from all sides and the numbers are steadily rising, comprising of mostly retail investors from all walks of life. Now, market mania is one thing that rules the Forex market, and this is down to its volatile and almost dynamic nature.
Many articles out there actually speak about how the Forex market is liquid and how it is a zero sum game – all how it can be beneficial to you and your trading day. But while a lot of that is fact, to me, it seems they are trying to avert your eyes from the fire by shining pretty little lights over your eyes.
Yes, the Forex market has many qualities about it that make it a winning choice for new and old investors to put their money in and yes, it is a market you should seriously consider in these bearish of times, but this does not mean you should not know what lies under the hood of its market psychology; which at times has been called manic and unpredictable at the very least. Market psychology is ruled by hundreds and thousands of emotions running rampant as the market roams through the many regions in its 24/day 5 day a week cycle and this is because of the sheer amount of factors that can affect price movements.
This is especially true of day traders and swing traders who often become mad with the gamblers gambit and make investments purely on either greed, anger or frustration; throwing out their carefully planned strategies for what seems to be unconventional means to an end. Then add to the fact that there is a ton of technical information and analysis for you to shift through and with every investor out there, they are using different aspects of the market to formulate their moves.
Then add to the fact that you also need to do fundamental analysis and you will understand why market psychology is such a rampantly manic one. Wars, apartheid, new governments, economic crisis, liquidation – even a word that some politician says in passing on broadcast TV can affect the movement of the market. Just think of the stock and equities market and multiply this by ten. Then combine about a million different type of systems and strategies, all attacking the market at the same time as they try to jostle for the positions that would lead them to making some good profits. This is why something as fundamental as the foreign currency exchange rate can create a market that is manic and unpredictable. My advice – get a good system, get a reasonable broker and work hard if you are eve to survive this jungle.

With something as unpredictable as the Forex market, myths that suggest that it is anything other than a labyrinth with a Minotaur around every corner are dangerous. Given the odds, it is almost impossible for a new trader with zero knowledge of the market to get lucky and make their fortune. They are almost certain to crash and burn without expert guidance yet the proliferation of myths regarding foreign exchange rates make it more likely that they will try and beat the market with no knowledge anyway.
Actually the above title is extremely misleading. The weather can and usually is predicted with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Foreign currency exchange rates on the other hand are nigh on impossible to figure out. Even the most successful traders will lose quite frequently but the difference between them and losing traders is the fact that top quality traders usually win big when they do win and lose small on the many occasions they get it wrong. Although the fact that 90% or more Forex traders lose is a figure skewed by the amount of new traders who never win, the market is not and never will be predictable enough for anyone to guess correctly even half the time.
Even though it is well known that the Forex market is basically a game of chance with unfavorable odds for all but experienced traders, newcomers still insist on spending big and incurring huge losses. The cautionary tales that surround the market get ignored in favor of the belief that today will be the trader’s lucky day. This means that despite all evidence to the contrary, even in light of the fact that the Forex market is impossible to predict, traders still elect to follow myths rather than common sense.
One of these myths surrounds the effectiveness of Forex software. Yes, there are indeed some good quality robots available that may make you a small profit in the long run if you’re patient. However, most of these machines are piles of garbage with their reputation based on meaningless back testing. The figures they come up with are completely useless because they are simulations with prior knowledge of the closing price. Then you have people who think that complicated systems trump all else. Again, while it is true that a well-thought out complex system can indeed be relatively successful, the mere fact that they have more elements to break than moderate level systems is usually their downfall.
Possibly the strangest myth is the one that suggests that the best way to win is to trade often. This has no bearing on whether you will win or not. All that will happen here is that you’ll lose even more money if you choose incorrectly. The most lucrative trades come around rarely and these are the key to Forex success. While you must listen carefully to all news concerning the various factors that influence the Forex market, you need to remember that the market reacts to trader’s reactions not necessarily the news. Excited or panicky reactions are what affect the market, not the news that has been broadcast, as bizarre as that sounds.
With such a volatile market, following your instincts is not recommended. As difficult as it is to stay calm while chaos rages around you, the cool and collected trader will always have a chance of emerging victorious from the unpredictable Forex market.

The lack of knowledge of the majority of new traders is startling yet it shouldn’t be. All sorts of products hype up the market as some sort of magical guaranteed profit venture. Their worst crime is to understate the complexity of the market. To say that foreign exchange rates and what affects them is complicated is a wild understatement. The first clue to the difficulties that lie on the Forex market should be the high percentage of losing trades suffered by investors. The next hint should be the fact that sometimes trillions of dollars pass through in a day and the final one should be the knowledge that some thirty currencies are traded against one another.
The simplified version of the market suggests that all a new trader needs to do is buy dollars and hope that it goes up against the euro. The fact that the main principle of the market is to simply put one currency against another is part of the reason for the huge interest from people who have no business risking their money in something they know nothing about. The insane amount of coverage it gets coupled with false information about how easy it is presents another problem. Finally, the fact that it is open 24 hours a day means that anyone with ready cash and an internet connection can join.
Yet new traders don’t know the first thing about why currencies goes up or down in relation to one another. There are a mind blowing number of computations, calculations and considerations to ponder. Forex trading is divided into the derivative market which includes aspects like futures not to mention the real estate and commodities markets. If this isn’t confusing enough, you also have to take into account the actions of the stock market and bond market. One reason that people like it is because of its extreme liquidity status.
The Forex market is one of the most liquid markets in the world today and this is attractive to investors who want more control over their decisions and would like to see their strategies turn into real time movements. ‘Real time’ market movements and reactions are what make Forex so dynamic and so interesting and being a zero sum game, there will always be a position where you can make money, even when the economy is at a downturn. As long as you are in the right place, facing the right way, you will always be in a position to make serious money. The over the counter nature and the fact that there is no physical location where trading can be regulated is also a big plus points for many of the investors out there.
Considering an entry to the market is usually a wise decision, but you need to ensure that you have the right tools on your side. First, be prepared to work hard and shatter that delusion that the Forex market is a miracle waiting to happen. There is no such thing as a quick solution to market millions. You need to learn as much as you can about the necessary technical and fundamental analysis that you need to wrap your finger around and formalise some sort of strategy going.
The amount of technical analysis is massive, and depending on the region or the currency you are trading with, there will be so much data for you to digest it is not funny. Add in fundamental analysis into the mix and you will soon see what I mean. In addition, it would be a very good idea to have a Forex system in your hands. There are some really good ones being published by expert investors all over the world that will help you turn an old exchange rate calculator into a money making machine!
